Ingredients

Main
  • 1 gallon of water
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2 cups of fruit such as sliced apples, peaches, or berries
  • 1 packet of active dry yeast
  • 1 lemon juiced

Equipment

  • Large glass jar with lid
  • Funnel
  • Cheesecloth or coffee filter
  • Rubber band
  • Measuring cups
  • Wooden spoon

Method

  1. Thoroughly clean your glass jar to prevent unwanted bacteria.
  2. In a large pot, bring one gallon of water to a boil.
  3. Stir in the sugar until it completely dissolves, creating a simple syrup.
  4. Remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly.
  5. Add your chosen fruit to the syrup for flavor infusion.
  6. Once the mixture has cooled to room temperature, squeeze in the lemon juice.
  7. Sprinkle the yeast over the mixture and stir gently to activate fermentation.
  8. Using a funnel, pour the mixture into your clean glass jar, leaving space at the top.
  9. Cover the jar with cheesecloth or a coffee filter secured with a rubber band.
  10. Place the jar in a dark, warm spot for about a week, checking daily and stirring gently.

Notes

Use fresh fruit for the best flavor and to boost fermentation activity. Store in the refrigerator to prolong freshness.
