Ingredients

Main
  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 1 orange sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon allspice berries
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar optional
  • 1 shot bourbon or rum optional

Equipment

  • Large pot or saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Strainer or cheesecloth
  • Mugs or heatproof glasses

Method

  1. In a large pot, pour in the apple cider and add the sliced orange, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and allspice berries.
  2. Place the pot over medium heat and allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer.
  3. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  4. If you prefer a sweeter cider, add brown sugar at this stage and stir well until it dissolves completely.
  5. After simmering, remove the pot from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large bowl.
  6. If you’re feeling adventurous, stir in a shot of bourbon or rum for an adult twist.
  7. Pour the warm cider into mugs or heatproof glasses.
  8. Garnish each mug with a cinnamon stick or an orange slice before serving.

Notes

Adjust the sweetness or spice level to suit your preference.
